So effective! I have been using this after sun cream for 6 or 7 years now and it is the BEST after excessive sun exposure! The reddest, most painful sunburn will evaporate into a perfect, beautiful tan when you use this cream. Magical. I also much prefer this updated format of container. (The pump was not good -- product did not get sucked up at all and I would unscrew it to try to scoop it into my palm.) I personally love the smell of this product, although I guess some reviewers do not prefer it. It is earthy, natural, evocative of the healing properties of St. John's Wort. Thank you for this amazing product!
Great move updating to a cream! This is perfect after a day at the beach or to take on a sunny vacation. On a recent trip I forgot to pack regular body lotion and this cream served as a good backup, maybe even better! It has an earthy scent at first that I don’t mind at all.

Took this on a beach vacation and used it generously at night after very sunny days. Glad I had it with me! I like the earthy-ish natural smell and had no issue with the pump. I would buy this again.
I've only used this once after some time in the sun and I feel like this has a strong unpleasant smell and the consistency was a bit thick (would probably benefit from a different container, not a pump) and it felt like it sat on top of my skin and had a hard time being absorbed even though my skin was freshly washed and ready for it. It's a shame because I love the facial cleanser and rosewater toner.

Im sorry the product wasn't to your liking, but do let me answer a few of your concerns
1. The product is thick because that is the nature of Tamanu Oil, perhaps the most effective natural skin irration healer in the world. And the scent is somewhat like Butter Scotch
2. The other component to the scent is the St Johns Wort which takes the sting out of the sun burn has a scent somewhat like damp earth.
3. The build up on your skin Im pretty sure was because you may have used too much, when appied to slightly damp skin it should absorbe nicely and a little goes a very long way to heal and soothe your skin

This product is very soothing. I’ll apply it after longer times in the sun (even if not red from the sun).
This serum feels cool and soothing to my skin. I work outdoors and often even though I am not sun burnt per se and have been wearing sunscreen, my skin still feels warm and slightly affected by the sun at the end of the day. This serum soothes and makes the slight irritation go away. Small note is that it’s too thick for the pump, so I unscrew the top to take some out each time but it doesn’t bother me.
